8 mistakes you make in the bathroom that may be affecting your skin
Washing your face with hot water or not cleaning your brushes is affecting your complexion. Learn from your mistakes and go out looking stunning!
Stepping away from the debate of whether you use a sponge, scrub down to your feet, or prefer a bath over a shower, we explain 8 mistakes you might be making in the bathroom that could be affecting your skin.
1. One towel
Discovering that the pants of your dreams are one size fits all is a nightmare, just like using a single towel. The face in the morning, hands after eating or using the bathroom, even a stain on the clothes... Everything goes through our towel, so wouldn't it be better to have a towel for each part? Having a specific face towel won't make you snobby, it will just give you a complexion worthy of royalty.
2. Weekly wash
The washing machine ritual is tedious, but since we are at it, let's remember to put the towels (in plural) in weekly. Accumulating and dragging all the dirt from April to July will cause outbreaks of acne or skin infections and hinder daily face washing. Say goodbye to acne while dancing to the rhythm of the spin cycle.
3. Do brushes need to be washed?
Yes, brushes need to be washed and this is another great forgotten step. It is advisable to run our makeup tools through the washing tunnel at least every 7 to 10 days. Proper maintenance prevents acne, and especially its spread and contagion to other areas. A habit that helps care for our skin, but is also good for the brushes themselves, which will be soft and last much longer. Moreover, the dust and dirt from the brushes could also end up sticking to your expensive cosmetics and ruin them.
Laziness is not an excuse, it's super easy! How?: Wet the brushes from the base to the tips, apply neutral soap and rub downwards, never in the opposite direction, as the bristles could come out. You'll see that everything comes out! Let them dry for about 24 hours and set a reminder for the following week.
4. Rub-a-dub-dub
Both the skin and hair need delicacy. “Dress me slowly because I am in a hurry,” they used to say. Not having time is no excuse to be rough and rub too hard, as you may be irritating the skin and damaging the skin barrier. Your face will thus be more sensitive to damage from external factors, such as dryness and spots. It also does nothing good for your hair, which wears out and weakens, even breaking. Don't throw away the work of the repairing masks!
5. From the inside out, from bottom to top
The technique when washing our face or applying creams also affects us. Stretching the skin creates trends, and downward movements will make our skin look somewhat saggy. It is advisable to always start from the inside out, from the nose to the ears, and to avoid descending, on the forehead we will go from the brow to the hairline. Massaging our face with circular movements will help us maintain our natural firmness and elasticity, to always be glowing.
6. Too hot to handle
We know that sometimes, especially in winter, we are on the verge of burning with the water temperature, but taking a shower that is too hot can be affecting our skin. Especially when washing our face, we should try to maintain a temperature of about 30ºC, moderately warm leaning towards cold. Even if it makes our hair stand on end, this will help maintain the natural barrier that protects moisture, lipids... Moreover, a splash of cold water will reduce inflammation, for those whose eyes swell a lot right after waking up. There is a solution for the famous 'just woke up' face!
7. Time to hydrate!
Applying cream both facial and body is a very important step to take care of our skin. This is for those who are always in a hurry and skip this step. We must apply body cream daily, just like the face. Our body needs hydration! Don't forget about the elbows, notoriously dry areas.
The post-shower moment is ideal for applying cream. Damp skin has very good absorption, so if you were waiting for the right moment, it was that. Applying it in circular and upward motions will help your skin stay in place and maintain its natural firmness. For those of you who always remember, we have to ask you, what technique do you recommend?
If you've passed the previous two questions, you are surely lovers of moisturizer. As experts you are, will you increase the amount when the cold arrives, right? In autumn and winter, it can be good to apply it even 2-3 times a day if your skin needs it.
8. One for all, and all for one?
Scented, neutral, exfoliating, dermatological... We can find many different types of soap, and each will have its advantages and disadvantages, but we must find the one that best meets our needs. Even though the family pack calls to us, it might not be the best to share it with all your housemates. If you can't even agree on whether to order pizza with or without pineapple, it's very likely that your skin types won't match either.
Also, even if you match with a type of soap, you should know that it doesn't have to work the same on your entire body, since for example, the skin on your face is more delicate. Listen to your body and your skin!
To correct is for the wise, and if correcting these habits will give us stunning skin, we won't miss any from now on... Will you join us?
