Procedure

1. Medical appointment

Undergoing a medical visit with the surgeon responsible for the hair transplant procedure is of vital importance to determine the current degree of baldness, which areas can be implanted, and the number of follicles to be extracted.
2. Extraction

Between 1,000 and 3,500 follicular units (using forceps for implantation) or between 1,000 and 2,500 (with pen implanters) are extracted individually in a single day from the occipital and/or temporal area.
3. Implementation

The following day, the extracted follicles are implanted into the recipient area according to the design previously established by the surgeon, taking into account the patient's requests.

Care

Before the treatment

1. Wash your hair with regular shampoo on the morning of the procedure and make sure to remove any product residue (gel, hairspray, etc.).

2. Eat a normal breakfast on the morning of the transplant, but avoid caffeinated beverages (e.g., coffee).

3. Come wearing a button-down and/or zippered shirt.

4. Drink plenty of water the day before the surgery.

5. Do not shave your hair.

6. Do not take vitamin complexes that include vitamins E and B, 10 days before the procedure, as this increases bleeding. Avoid unnecessary medication or phytotherapy.

7. Avoid aspirin or anti-inflammatory drugs for ten days prior to surgery. Inform the doctor before the transplant if you are taking any anticoagulant medication.

8. Do not smoke for at least 24 hours before the surgical procedure, as it delays healing and increases the likelihood of infection, which could compromise the survival of the grafts.

9. Do not consume alcohol for at least three days before the transplant and avoid caffeinated beverages (such as coffee) as they increase bleeding and sensitivity to the medications used.

10. Do not engage in any sports or physical exertion five days before surgery.

11. Stop Minoxidil treatment two weeks before surgery; if you use Finasteride, continue taking your usual dose.

What's the reception area like?

Men have more localized areas of hair loss, as well as more extensive hair loss. In women, it presents as a thinning area, and the distribution is more diffuse.

Is the donor area important?

In men, the donor area is usually larger, as we can use follicles from the temporal-occipital area, whereas in women we can only use the lower occipital area, as the occipital area is often affected by androgenism.

Does the type of hair I have matter?

The thickness, color, and structure of the hair (straight and curly) influence the final result of the graft:

Thickness: The thicker the hair, the greater the sensation of coverage.

Color: A greater visual effect is achieved when the hair color is similar to that of the scalp.

Structure: Curly hair offers greater coverage due to the spatial volume it occupies.

What's the perfect age?

Ideally, the patient should present with stable hair loss. These are usually patients over 30 years of age. In 80% of cases, stability is achieved around 40-45 years of age.
